Cemu (short for "Café Emulation", "Café" being the codename for the Wii U) is a closed-source Wii U video game console emulator developed by Exzap who serves as the core and GPU developer, and with Petergov as the core and audio emulation developer. It was initially released on October 13, 2015 for Microsoft Windows. Typically, the emulator updates once every two to four weeks, with Patreon supporters receiving updates a week before the public release. Though it is still under development, it is able to run certain games smoothly. In January 2017, it was reported that Cemu is capable of running games in 4K resolution through graphic packs.

The ViGEmBus driver and ViGEmClient libraries represent the core of the Virtual Gamepad Emulation Framework (or ViGEm , for short). ViGEm aims for a 100% accurate emulation of well-known gaming peripherals as pure software-based devices at kernel level.
