GPD Win Max 2 (2025) is a mini gaming laptop with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370

Created on:2024-12-17 16:17

This week handheld PC maker GPD launched an updated version of its GPD Win 4 handheld gaming PC with a 6 inch display and an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” processor, which should bring a significant performance boost over the Ryzen 7 8840U “Hawk Point” chip in the previous-generation model.

Now the company is giving the same treatment to GPD Win Max 2. This is a mini laptop with a 10,1 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel capacitive touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard large enough for touch-typing. But it’s also designed to be used as a handheld gaming PC, with a pair of integrated game controllers positioned above the keyboard, allowing you to hold the computer in two hands while playing games. The GPD Win Max 2 (2025) is now available for purchase from Indiegogo, and it should begin shipping to backers this month.

So far there’s only one configuration available, and it’s an expensive model with top-tier specs. GPD is charging $1462 for a GPD Win Max 2 with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, 64GB of RAM, and 2TB of storage. It’s possible that lower-cost configurations with less memory or storage could show up in the future.

If you don’t care to wait for a cheaper Strix Point model, GPD is still selling a Hawk Point model with a Ryzen 7 8840U processor, 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage for $958.

Aside from the processor, memory, and storage, the two systems are pretty much identical. There are a few small changes though: both USB Type-C ports are USB4 ports now, and the cooling module and fan have been redesigned.

While Indiegogo is a crowdfunding site, the GPD Win Max 2 is a device that’s actually been around for a few years at this point, so there’s little risk that GPD will fail to deliver a product if you place an order.

That said, there’s still some risk involved with buying any devices from GPD or other Chinese handheld PC makers like AYANEO and One Netbook: these companies have made some of the most interesting little computers I’ve seen in the past few years, but they also have less than stellar track records for offering customer service and support.
